Cootehill Mart reveals provisional reopening dates

The Drury family of Cootehill Livestock Mart has revealed provisional reopening dates.

Geoffrey and Steven Drury have announced the following information regarding three sales (subject to change):

  • Friday, March 19th (evening sale) – Weanlings
  • Tuesday, March 23rd (evening sale) – Sheep
  • Wednesday (morning/afternoon sale) – General cattle

In a brief post on Facebook, a spokesperson for the mart said:

“Getting ever closer to our first day of sale. We are very much looking forward to welcoming people from near, far, and wide.”

“Again, we have to thank so many countless people for all their support and good wishes over the past number of weeks. It has been nothing short of amazing.”

“Cootehill Livestock Mart is using the Livestock Live (LSL) video software system and will be available to use immediately on the first sale.”

The premises, now named Cootehill Livestock Mart, was under Jimmy and Carmel O’Reilly’s management for seven years.

The Drury family have signed a ten-year lease on the Station Road mart premises. The Cavan-based mart draws customers from the county, Monaghan, Meath, and further afield.

In a brief statement on a newly created Facebook page on Saturday, February 13th, a spokesperson said:

“We are delighted to announce that Cootehill Livestock Mart, formerly Station Road Mart, is reopening during March 2021 under new management.”

“We cannot wait to welcome back all customers, farmers and friends from near and far in the very near future. The reopening date will be announced very soon.”

Closure

In January 2021, Jimmy O’Reilly and Carmel O’Reilly, the directors of Station Road Mart Ltd, announced that as of and from January 15th, the company would no longer operate the mart premises at Stations Road, Cootehill, Co. Cavan.

“The directors of Station Road Mart Ltd wish to express their profound gratitude to all their loyal customers, staff and suppliers. The directors further wish to state that Station Road Mart Ltd is and always has been solvent.” a statement read.
