Castlerea Mart – Cattle Prices – 27-04-2023
According to Brendan Egan, over 800 lots came under the hammer at Castlerea Mart’s cattle sale on Thursday, April 27th, 2023, writes farming journalist, Catherina Cunnane.
The mart manager reported that trade was similar to last week, with quality stores “remaining a great trade” as farmers sourced stock for further feeding.
The weanling rings, Egan noted, witnessed a variance in price, depending on quality, with top bulls exceeding €4.00/kg and heifer weanlings topping out at €1360.
Cows with calves at foot topped maxed out at €2,810, while a dairy sale of 21 cows witnessed a full clearance.
Bullocks changed hands for up to €2420, while heifers peaked at €2000 and cull cows topped out at €2450 at Thursday’s sale.

- Cows with calves at foot ranged from €1380 to €2810 for a Limousin cow and her BB bull calf at foot.
- Springers pushes from €1260 to €2260;
- Dairy sale: Milkers made from €1060 to €2130 with dairy springers from €1200 to €1700;
- Calves: Lots from €5 to €75 for dairy lots with AAX and HEX making from €100 to €350 and continentals to €460;
- Runners ranged from €240 to €1000.
