Castlerea Mart report – cattle prices – 23-09-2021
According to Brendan Egan, the €2,000 mark was breached on several occasions at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, September 23rd, 2021.
The mart manager reported that its general, annual show and sale of continental heifers and Belgian Blue weanling show and sale, saw up to 750 cattle go under the hammer.
Egan commented: “The heifer ring with a good entry of top-quality stock met with a strong demand from farmers, agents and Northern Ireland customers resulting in a good clearance.”
“We recorded a top price of €1,850 for a 540kgs BBX heifer, while the top-prize winning weanling heifer sold at €2,400 or €6.48/kilo. Bull weanlings peaked at €4.00/kg.”
“The dry cow ring saw prices peak at €2,020 while cows with calves at foot made up to €2340,” Egan remarked.

The mart held its annual show and sale of continental bullocks on Monday, September 20th.
Egan reported “a large entry of quality stock on offer”. “Prices held extremely well with an excellent clearance taking place,” he remarked.
