Forward stores and breeding heifers the ‘best sellers’ at Castlerea

Castlerea Mart report – cattle prices – 22-04-2021

According to Brendan Egan, a large entry went under the hammer at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, April 22nd, 2021.

He reported that prices “were maintained and in some cases improved upon as customers were anxious to source stock”.

The weanling rings reported “good” clearances as bulls peaked at €3.14/kg and heifer weanlings reached €3.65/kg.

“The store heifers remain a good trade also with breeding type lots and forward stores the best sellers.”

“The cow trade reported a good clearance with excellent demand for both forward lots and stores; lots peaked at €2.37/kg.”

“Breeding stock, with more numbers on offer, peaked at €2,220 for a Charolais cow and her Limousin bull calf at foot. The calf trade reported a good clearance also with prices determined by quality,” Egan added.

  • HEX bull – €250;
  • AA bull – €250;
  • AA bull – €330;
  • CH bull – €410;
  • Runners made from €330 to €800 for continental lots.

According to Egan, 150 bullocks were on offer, with forward lots, in particular, in strong demand. Entries sold for up to €1,090 over their weight.

Castlerea Mart report – cattle prices – 15-04-2021

According to Brendan Egan, demand “remained strong for all categories” at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, April 15th, 2021.

In the heifer ring, lots with breeding potential reached a top call of €3.36/kg. “Demand was also good for the feeding lots as farmers, agents, and exporters were in competition for the lots on offer.”

“In the weanling rings, prices were unchanged with lighter quality bulls the best sellers on the day. Weanling heifers peaked at €3.75 a kilo.”

“The suck calf trade continues to attract a lot of customers while breeding stock reported a good clearance. The dry cow trade remains very good also.”
