Castlerea Mart Report – Cattle Prices – 21-04-2022
According to Brendan Egan, over 700 animals passed through the ring at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, April 21st, 2022.
The mart manager reported that farmers, agents, and northern customers were active at the mart’s weekly cattle sale.
The heifer ring saw a “very strong” trade, while weanlings, both bulls and heifers met with “increased demand”. Bull weanlings changed hands for up to €3.52/kg, while weanling heifers rose to €3.65/kg.
Egan commented that the dry cow trade witnessed the top lots make up to €2,320, while calves ranged from €5 (35-60kg Friesians from 1-2-months-old)-€430/head.
Meanwhile, breeding stock peaked at €2,080 and springers topped out at €2,200

According to Egan, over 200 bullocks were on offer at last Monday’s (April 18th, 2022) sale. Forward lots changed hands for up to €1,920 and quality stores exceeded the €3.00/kg barrier.
