Castlerea Mart – cattle prices – 20-01-2022
According to Brendan Egan, larger numbers of stock went under the hammer at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, January 20th, 2022.
The mart manager reported “excellent” demand for all categories of stock.
“The bullock ring, in particular, had a larger entry this week with quality stores making up to €2.88/kg. Heavier lots peaked at €2,200 for an 830 kilo Aberdeen-Angus.”
“The heifer ring reported a good clearance again this week, while the weanling rings, with an increased number on offer, saw bulls peak at €3.39/kg. Heifer weanlings saw prices peak at €3.95/kg.”
“Meanwhile, dry cows remain a fine trade with forward cows making up to €2.44/kg. Store cows, with bigger numbers on offer, witnessed price improvements.”
He reported that cows with calves at foot made from €1,760 to €1,820, while springers changed hands from €1,050 to €1,690.
Lastly, young calves ranged from €120 to €440 with runners from €300 to €760.
