Heifers to €2,520 and cull cows to €2,230 at Castlerea

Castlerea Mart – cattle prices – 10-03-2022

According to Brendan Egan, Castlerea Mart held its largest sale to date on Thursday, March 10th, 2022.

The mart manager reported that despite “ all the turbulence in the world” at the moment, the mart witnessed a “very lively trade” for all classes of stock at its general cattle sale.

He reported that the bullock ring saw prices peak at €2,180, while the heifer ring saw prices reach €2,520 for a 765kg Charolais or €3.29/kg.

“The dry cow trade saw prices peak at €2.85/kg with a good clearance taking place. Meanwhile, the weanling rings noticed increased farmer activity, especially quality lots as we enter the normal spring trade.”

“Breeding stock reported a good clearance this week, while the calf ring, with increased numbers of customers, witnessed an improved trade this week.”
