Castlerea Mart – cattle prices – 09-12-2021

According to Brendan Egan, entry numbers remained “strong” at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, December 19^th, as it enters its final week of trading for 2021.

The mart manager reported that Thursday’s general sale witnessed “good demand”.

He reported that in the heifer ring, prices improved by €30-€40 per head with increased demand, especially for forward lots.

Continuing, he said: “Quality weanlings saw prices hold while breeding stock reached €2,160 and dry cows peaked at €1750, with increased numbers of store cows coming on stream.”

According to Egan, some 200 bullocks passed through the ring at Monday’s sale (December 6^th, 2021).

He reported that a “flying” trade for both store and heavier locks led to an “excellent” clearance.
