Teams to €2,330 and culls to €2,140 at Castlerea  

Castlerea Mart – cattle prices – 08-07-2021

According to Brendan Egan, a large entry went under the hammer at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, July 8th, 2021.

The mart manager reported that “trade has held up very well even with the extra stock on offer for the time of year”.

“The bullock ring witnessed strong demand again this week. Quality store bullocks exceeded €3.00 a kilo, while the heavier lots made up to €2,050 with a good clearance.”

“The heifer rings had a lively trade also with agents, farmers, northern buyers active again this week. Breeding stock with good numbers on offer saw prices peak at €2,330 for a Limousin cow and her bull calf at foot.”

“The dry cow trade witnessed a good clearance with prices peaking at €2,140 or €2.40 a kilo.”

“Calves are running are holding well as farmers replace sold stock. The weanling rings noticed very strong demand. Weanling heifers peaked at €3.29/kilo, while the bull ring was governed by quality with variance between the quality lots and plainer types.”
