Up to €2,000 for breeding heifers at Castlerea

Castlerea Mart – cattle prices – 08-04-2021

Some 700 cattle went under the hammer at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, April 8th, 2021, according to Brendan Egan.

The mart manager reported that trade “held firm” as demand for stock “remains very strong”.

“The heifer ring had a very good clearance with the top lots reaching €3.47/kg with the breeding heifers in strong demand.”

“The weanling heifer ring had a similar tone with prices peaking at €4.03 a kilo, while bull weanlings noticed price improvement this week, especially for stronger lots.”

“The dry cow ring reported a good clearance also with prices and demand similar to previous weeks. We had increased numbers of cows with calves at foot with prices peaking at €1,870 while the calf ring noticed good demand also this week.” Egan added.

Just under 200 entries were on offer at the mart’s bullock sale on Monday, April 5th, 2021. Entries sold to €970 over the kg with “strong demand for all categories and a good clearance”.

Castlerea Mart report – cattle prices – 01-04-2021

Castlerea Mart’s weekly cattle sale, held on Thursday, April 1st, 2021, attracted some 700 entries, according to Brendan Egan.

The mart manager reported that prices held firm as “buyers continue to source stock despite the recent weather conditions”.

“Heifers were in strong demand again this week, while the weanling rings reported good clearances. Top-quality weanling exceeded €3.00/kg in both rings.”

“The dry cow trade is holding firm with €2.26/kg. Breeding stock continues to rise in price as increased interest was shown this week, while the calf trade was very strong also with prices reaching €440.” Egan added.
