Castlerea Mart report – cattle prices – 06-05-2021

According to Brendan Egan, trade remained steady for quality lots at Castlerea Mart’s weekly cattle on Thursday, May 6^th, 2021.

The mart manager reported that “plainer-quality lots tended to be a little easier”.

“In the weanling bull rings, quality lots peaked at €3.63/kg, while the heifer weanling ring reported a steady trade with a top price of €1,310 paid for a 370kgs Limousin heifer.”

“Breeding stock numbers continue to rise with €1,920 paid for a 9-year-old cow and her Limousin bull calf at foot.”

“The dry cow trade remains very strong with a top price of €1,840 paid for a 660 kilo Belgian Blue dry cow or €2.78/kg.”

“The heifer ring reported a good clearance with breeding lots peaking at €2.90/kg or €1,600 for a 550kg, Belgian Blue-cross heifer. Calf numbers remain strong for the time of year with demand holding firm also,” Egan concluded.

According to Egan, some 120 bullocks met with a “steady” trade on Monday, May 3^rd, 2021. He reported that quality lots peaked at €2.73/kg, while heavier lots climbed to €1,700/head.
