‘Better demand’ for weanling heifers than bulls at Castlerea

Castlerea Mart report – cattle prices – 04-11-2021

According to Brendan Egan, entry numbers remained “high” at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, November 4th, 2021.

The mart manager reported that the Roscommon-based mart is witnessing “increased numbers of breeding stock coming on stream”.

“The heifer trade, with better quality lots on offer, reported a good clearance with increased demand evident this week.”

“The weanling trade reported variance between quality lots and plainer-type calves. There was better demand for weanling heifers than bulls.”

Egan reported that breeding stock peaked at €2,220 – a cow with calf at foot – while springers topped out at €1,940.

He added that dry cow prices “remained firm” with tops of €1,890.
