Carnew Mart – cattle prices – 11-12-2021
According to David Quinn, just over 850 lots changed hands at Carnew Mart on Saturday, December 11th, 2021.
The mart manager pointed out that prices were on par with the previous week’s level and were “stronger” in many cases.
Speaking following the sale, he said:
“Cows made up a large part of the sale with active bidding both ringside and online from wholesalers, factory agents and northern buyers.”
“This led to a full clearance and some top quality prices. These include a 932kg Limousin at €2,560 or €2.75/kg, while another 870kg CH cow made €2,040.”
“Heavy bullocks were also in demand with an 878kg CHX making €2,120.”
“Friesian cows out of the parlour were a steady trade with €1.10-€1.20/kg much more freely available for the poorer types. Meanwhile, stronger cows were a very lively throughout,” Quinn added.

According to Quinn, some 50 bulls were on offer with “many” farmer customers around the ring.

- 380KG – CHX – €1070;
- 408KG – CHX – €980.
Suckler prices
Carnew Mart had a special entry of sucklers with spring-calving cows due to the Limousin or Angus bull selling between €1320 and €1600.
“Meanwhile, cows with calves at foot sold in general from €1380 to €1850. One exceptional Limousin team sold at €2,550,” Quinn concluded.
