Up to €4.30/kg for weanling bulls as exporters active at Carnew

Carnew Mart – cattle prices – 05-03-2022

According to David Quinn, just under 1,100 lots passed through the ring at Carnew Mart on Saturday, March 5th, 2022.

The mart manager reported that the general weekly cattle sale drew a “super yard of quality entries”.

Speaking following the sale, he said: “On Saturday, we had an E and U grade sale in conjunction with the normal sale.”

“Trade did not disappoint, with €3/kg now very common for normal store cattle in heifer bullock and bull categories.”

“While factory agents and northern customers drove the fat cattle trade, stores were bought out by feedlot agents and grass farmers, who are starting to appear for suitable lots.”

“Exporters drove the weanling bull trade, with up to €4.30/kg for top-quality bulls,” Quinn added.

According to Quinn, an 835kg CH heifer topped out at €2,500, while a pair of Simmental-cross heifers, hitting the scales at 692kgs, climbed to €2,020 and a 690kg Limousin bullock fetched €2,140.
