Last week
Just under 900 entries were offered for sale at Ennis Mart on Tuesday, February 9th, according to a spokesperson.
They noted that some 60 calves met with a “good” trade but stressed that buyers are in the market for calves that are at least 3-weeks-old, and well-fed.
“Top price in this ring was for a Charolais bull calf of a month old, and he made €545. Friesian bull calves generally made from €45 to €85 with a few better lots making €90 to €135. Aberdeen-Angus calves made from €155 to €40.”
Again, a strong entry of suckler stock and pairs fetched from €1,500 to €2,170, while in-calf lots ranged from €1,400 to €2,190.
“A fair few heavy bull weanlings but good stock, and this helped maintain the price. A few exceptional heifers made very fancy prices today and hit €4.07 per kg. Overall, trade was very solid, but quality was good.” the spokesperson added.
