Blessington Mart – Cattle Prices – 24-03-2022

According to a spokesperson for Blessington Mart, a “very good” trade prevailed for all classes at its most recent general cattle sale on 24-03-2022.

The spokesperson noted that the sale drew “a lot” of customers ringside and online.

Blessington Mart 24-03-2022:

• Beef bullocks – €860-€1,280 over;
• Continental store bullocks – €560-€1,090 over;
• HE/AA store bullocks – €460-€800 over;
• Friesian bullocks – €380-€600 over;
• Continental store heifers – €480-€880 over;
• Beef heifers – €800-€1,060 over;
• HE/AA store heifers – €400-€680 over;
• Beef cows – €460-€1,000 over;
• Feeding cows – €210-€440.

This week’s sheep prices:

The spokesperson noted that sheep – mainly fat hoggets and cast ewes – met with a “very strong” trade at the mart last Tuesday (March 22^nd, 2022).

They provided the following prices:

• Heavy hoggets – €167-€173 or €105-€112 over;
• Factory hoggets – €152-€167 or €100-€109 over;
• Store hoggets – €114-€146 or €82-€110 over;
• Heavy ewes – €176-€238/head;
• Lighter ewes – €106-€166/head.

Last week’s cattle sale:

According to a spokesperson for Blessington Mart, a “very strong” trade prevailed for all classes at Thursday’s (February 17^th, 2022) cattle sale.

They reported that “a lot of farmers were looking for stock” at its general weekly sale.

• Beef bullocks – €860-€1,140 over;
• Continental store bullocks – €580-€960 over;
• HE/AA store bullocks – €440-€680 over;
• Friesian store bullocks – €260-€430 over;
• Beef heifers – €690-€1,040 over;
• Continental store heifers – €480-€730 over;
• HE/AA store heifers – €380-€620 over;
• Beef cows – €360-€650 over;
• Feeding cows – €160-€350 over.

Last week’s sheep prices

According to the spokesperson, store hoggets improved by €2-€4/head at the mart’s sheep sale on Tuesday, March 15^th, 2022.

They reported that all classes met with a better trade than the previous week.

• Heavy hoggets – €150-€156 or €100-€104 over;
• Factory hoggets – €142-€150 or €96-€105 over;
• Store hoggets over 40kgs – €126-€142 or €84-€98 over;
• Store hoggets over 35kgs – €105-€124 or €72-€90 over;
• Heavy ewes – €150-€176/head;
• Lighter ewes – €96-€142/head;
• In-lamb ewes – €140-€220/head.
