Blessington: ‘Better’ cattle trade with prices to €1,140 over

According to a spokesperson for Blessington Mart, a “better” trade prevailed for all classes at its latest cattle sale on Thursday, July 21st, 2022 (21-07-2022).

The spokesperson reported that beef cows ranged from €660-€1,140 over the kg, while feeding cows varied from €360-€600 over the kg.

Meanwhile, continental store bullocks fetched from €560-€1,100 over the kg and Hereford and Angus store bullocks went under the hammer from €440-€690 over the weight.

On the other hand, continental store heifers traded from €540-€920 over, while Hereford and Angus store heifers pushed from €400-€630 over.

This Week’s Sheep Prices

Meanwhile, according to the spokesperson, a “tougher” trade was evident for all types of fat lambs at Tuesday’s (July 19th, 2022) sheep sale.

They noted that trade for store lambs “remained very good” while the cast ewe trade was “similar” to the previous week.

Heavy lambs changed hands from €144-€149/head or €96-€106 over the kg, while factory lambs made from €128-€144/head or €86-€100 over the kg.

Store lambs, in the 30-35kg, weight bracket, reported prices from €86-€112/head or €66-€94 over the weight.

Lighter-type ewes found new owners from between €90-€134/head, while heavy ewes came in at €146-€182.

Cattle Prices on 14-07-2022

According to a mart spokesperson, there was a “good” trade for all cattle classes on Thursday, July 14th, with “a lot” of customers for stronger cattle.

  • Feeding cows – €300-€600 over;
  • Beef cows – €620-€1,000 over;
  • Beef bullocks – €1,000-€1,240 over;
  • Continental store bullocks – €500-€910 over;
  • HE/AA store bullocks – €440-€780 over;
  • Beef heifers – €860-950 over;
  • Continental store heifers – €480-€780 over;
  • HE/AA store heifers – €380-€600 over.
Sheep Prices

According to the spokesperson, trade was “much the same” as the previous week on Tuesday, July 12th, 2022.

  • Lighter ewes – €100-€166/head;
  • Heavy ewes – €170-€202/head;
  • Store lambs (30-35kgs) – €87-€118 or €66-€88 over the kg;
  • Store lambs (35-40kgs) – €118-€132 or €80-€96 over the kg;
  • Heavy lambs – €155-€161 or €108-€112 over the kg;
  • Factory lambs – €100-€155 or €100-€113 over the kg.
