Blessington: Cattle to €1,340 over and ewes to €204

Blessington Mart – Cattle Prices – 18-08-2022

According to a spokesperson for Blessington Mart, a large entry came under the hammer on 18-08-2022.

The sale drew what the spokesperson described as “a lot of strong cattle”, which saw prices reach €1,340 over the weight. They reported that a “very strong” trade prevailed for all types at the mart’s most recent cattle sale.

Beef bullocks went under the hammer from €1,100-€1,340 over, while continental store types changed hands from €560-€1,040 over and Hereford and Angus stores fetched from €460-€820 over and Friesian store bullocks made from €350-€640 over.

Meanwhile, feeding cows varied from €340-€600 over and beef types sold from €660-€1,140 over.

Beef heifers pushed from €960-€1,260 over, continental stores fetched from €540-€940 over, and Hereford and Angus stores changed hands from €400-€680 over.

Sheep prices

According to the spokesperson, Tuesday, August 16th, saw a large entry of sheep on offer.

The spokesperson reported a “very good” trade for fat and store lambs, while ewe lambs were “that little harder sold”.

  • Lambs over 40kgs (stores) – €112-€124 or €72-€81 over;
  • Lambs over 35kgs (stores) – €90-€112 or €58-€72 over;
  • Heavy ewes – €150-€204/head;
  • Lighter ewes – €94-€146/head;
  • Fat lambs – €126-€140 or €84-€93 over;
  • Heavy lambs – €140-€145 or €88-€96 over;
  • Suffolk-cross hogget ewes – €160-€250/head;
  • Suffolk-cross ewe lambs – €120-€150 or €80-€112 over;
  • Cheviot hogget ewes – €185-€245.
Last week’s cattle prices

According to a spokesperson, beef bullocks and beef heifers improved by between €40-€50/head at Blessington Mart on 11-08-2022.

They reported that a “very strong” trade prevailed at its most recent cattle sale this week.

Feeding cows changed hands from €280-€540 over the kg, while beef cows went under the hammer from €580-€1,000 over.

Beef bullocks made from €1,100-€1,460 over the kg, while continental stores fetched from €580-€1,120 over and Hereford and Angus store bullocks varied from €460-€910 over the weight. On the other hand, Friesian store bullocks pushed from €360-€680 over the kg.

Continental store heifers made from €480-€940 over, while Hereford and Angus store heifers climbed from €400-€775 over the kg.
