Blessington: Cattle to €1,300 over and heavy ewes to €152/hd

Blessington Mart – Cattle Prices – 13-10-2022

According to Blessington Mart, a “very good” trade prevailed for all classes of cattle, both bullocks and heifers, on Thursday, October 13th, 2022.

The spokesperson reported that this was its largest sale of the year, and prices reached €1,300 over the kg.

  • Feeding cows – €280-€560 over;
  • Beef cows – €580-€820 over;
  • HE/AA store heifers – €370-€640 over;
  • Continental store heifers – €460-€780 over;
  • Beef heifers – €680-€1,010 over;
  • Friesian store bullocks – €280-€590 over;
  • HE/AA store bullocks – €360-€650 over;
  • Continental store bullocks – €560-€1,060 over;
  • Beef bullocks – €1,000-€1,300 over.

According to a spokesperson for Blessington Mart, there was a “very good” trade for lambs at Blessington Mart on Tuesday, October 11th, 2022.

The spokesperson noted that the cast ewe trade was “similar to last week”.

  • Cheviot ewe lambs – €80-€138 or €50-€102 over;
  • Suffolk-cross ewe lambs – €100-€158 or €60-€114 over;
  • Breeding ewes – €136-€190/head;
  • Lighter ewes – €68-€114/head;
  • Heavy ewes – €126-€152/head;
  • Store lambs over 40kgs – €100-€114 or €60-€72 over;
  • Store lambs over 35kgs – €85-€102 or €50-€67 over;
  • Store lambs over 30kgs – €57-€82 or €30-€54 over;
  • Factory lambs – €114-€132 or €74-€86 over;
  • Heavy lambs – €132-€137 or €80-€89.

According to a spokesperson for Blessington Mart, a “much larger” entry crossed the scales at its cattle sale on 06-10-2022.

The spokesperson noted that a “very good” trade prevailed for forward store cattle, but smaller, plainer sorts were “a little harder to sell”.

  • Beef cows – €560-€1,000 over;
  • HE/AA store heifers – €340-€680 over;
  • Continental store heifers – €480-€880 over;
  • Beef heifers – €920-€1,160 over;
  • Friesian store bullocks – €260-€480 over;
  • HE/AA store bullocks – €360-€760 over;
  • Continental store bullocks – €560-€1,080 over;
  • Beef bullocks – €1,140-€1,380 over.

According to a spokesperson, a “very good” trade was evident for all lamb classes on Tuesday, October 4th, 2022.

They noted that “not as many” customers were in the market for brood ewes as in previous weeks.

  • Heavy lambs – €133-€138 or €80-€88 over;
  • Factory lambs – €118-€133 or €74-€81 over;
  • Lambs over 40kgs (stores) – €100-€116 or €60-€74 over;
  • Lambs over 35kgs (stores) – €85-€103 or €50-€68 over;

  • Heavy ewes – €120-€144/head;
