Blessington: Cattle to €1,440 over and ewes to €222/hd

According to a spokesperson for Blessington Mart, a “good” trade prevailed for all classes at its most recent cattle sale on 07-07-2022.

The spokesperson noted that there were “a lot” of customers for stronger cattle at yesterday’s general weekly cattle sale.

They reported that beef cows went under the hammer from €620-€1,100 over, while feeding types changed hands from €300-€600 over.

Meanwhile, beef bullocks made from €1,100-€1,440 over, while continental stores sold from €500-€910 over.

On the other hand, Hereford/Angus store bullocks went under the hammer from €440-€760 over, while Friesian-types ranged from €280-€780 over.

Beef heifers climbed from €860-€1,110 over the kg, while continental store-types varied from €480-€780 over and Hereford/Angus stores ranged from €380-€660 over.

This week’s sheep prices

According to a spokesperson, a “bigger” entry of sheep came under the hammer on Tuesday, July 5th, 2022.

They noted that the fat lamb trade was similar to the previous week, while stores met with an “easier” trade.

Heavy ewes sold for €170-€222, while lighter ewes ranged from €100-€166.

Heavy lambs sold from €158-€164 or €103-€114 over, while factory lambs made from €100-€158 or €100-€116 over.

Store lambs, in the 30-35kg weight bracket, pushed from €87-€118 or €66-€88 over, while stores ranging from 35-40kgs, found new owners from between €118-€136 or €80-€96 over the kg.

Last week’s cattle prices

“A very good” trade prevailed for all types of cattle at Blessington Mart on Thursday, June 30th, 2022.

That is according to a spokesperson who reported that a smaller entry of beef cattle came under the hammer at its most recent cattle sale.

Beef cows ranged from €600-€940 over the kg, while feeding cows varied from €310-€570 over the weight.

Meanwhile, in the bullock ring, continental stores made from €480-€960 over the kg, while Hereford and Angus store types changed hands from €410-€790 over and Friesian stores went under the hammer from €380-€630 over.

Meanwhile, in the heifer ring, continental stores varied from €470-€860 over the kg, while Hereford and Angus stores traded from €400-€690 over.
