Blessington: Cattle to €1,380 over and ewes to €205

Blessington Mart – Cattle Prices – 06-10-2022

According to a spokesperson for Blessington Mart, a “much larger” entry crossed the scales at Blessington Mart’s cattle sale on 06-10-2022.

The spokesperson noted that a “very good” trade prevailed for forward store cattle, but smaller, plainer sorts were “a little harder to sell”.

  • Feeding cows – €280-€540 over;
  • Beef cows – €560-€1,000 over;
  • HE/AA store heifers – €340-€680 over;
  • Continental store heifers – €480-€880 over;
  • Beef heifers – €920-€1,160 over;
  • Friesian store bullocks – €260-€480 over;
  • HE/AA store bullocks – €360-€760 over;
  • Continental store bullocks – €560-€1,080 over;
  • Beef bullocks – €1,140-€1,380 over.
This week’s sheep prices

According to a spokesperson, a “very good” trade was evident for all lamb classes on Tuesday, October 4th, 2022.

They noted that “not as many” customers were in the market for brood ewes as in previous weeks.

  • Heavy lambs – €133-€138 or €80-€88 over;
  • Factory lambs – €118-€133 or €74-€81 over;
  • Lambs over 40kgs (stores) – €100-€116 or €60-€74 over;
  • Lambs over 35kgs (stores) – €85-€103 or €50-€68 over;
  • Store lambs over 30kgs – €60-€88 or €30-€60 over;
  • Heavy ewes – €120-€144/head;
  • Lighter ewes – €76-€116/head;
  • Suffolk-cross hogget ewes – €120-€190/head;
  • Cheviot hogget ewes – €130-€200/head;
  • Cheviot-cross 3 and 4-year-old ewes – €120-€205/head;
  • Suffolk-cross ewe lambs – €110-€160 or €70-€120 over;
  • Cheviot ewe lambs – €90-€140 or €58-€100 over.
Last week’s cattle prices

According to a spokesperson for Blessington Mart, a “very good” trade prevailed for all classes of cattle on 29-09-2022.

The spokesperson noted that customers were active both at its ringside and online, as a larger entry went under the hammer.

Feeding cows made from €250-€480 over, while beef types ranged from €500-€900 over.

Beef heifers fetched from €780-€1,060 over, while continental store heifers varied from €480-€860 over and Angus and Hereford stores ranged from €380-€660 over.

Meanwhile, beef bullocks made from €1,040-€1,360 over the kg, continental stores traded from €530-€1,000 over and Angus and Hereford store bullocks pushed from €400-€690 over.
