Dry cows reach €2,490 at Ballinrobe Mart

Ballinrobe Mart – Cattle Prices – 10-08-2022

According to Tom McGuire, Ballinrobe Mart’s weekly sale saw some “top quality” cattle come under the hammer on Wednesday, August 10th, 2022.

The mart manager reported that there were “some great prices across the board and a clearance to match”.

He explained that heifers topped out at €1,980, while bullocks soared to €1,710 and dry cows hit €2,490 at Wednesday’s sale.

Bullock prices:

  • 500kg – CHX  – €1450;
  • 600kg – AAX – €1710;
  • 530kg – CHX  – €1500;
  • 490kg – AAX – €1330;
  • 380kg – LMX – €1090.                                                                

Dry cow prices:

  • 695kgs – FR – €1,210;
  • 755kgs – BB – €2,490;
  • 770kgs – FR – €1,350;
  • 750kgs – CH – €1,830;
  • 690kgs – CHX – €1,530;
  • 810kgs – AAX – €1,940;
  • 725kgs – AAX – €1,700;
  • 845kgs – LMX – €2,340;
  • 720kgs – CHX – €1,860.

Heifer prices

  • 540kg – LMX – €1690;
  • 530kg – BBX – €1590;
  • 600kg – AAX – €1700;
  • 700kg – CHX – €1980.

Sheep prices

Thursday sheep sale saw an abundance of “quality” store-type lambs, keeping with current trends, with numbers rising steadily as we head into the autumn season.

Lighter lambs from 25kg – 31kg went under the hammer from €65 up to €101 – A pen of 27kg hill ewe lambs topped out at €90 or €3.30 per kg.

According to the mart manager, lambs from 30kg to 45 kg were, on average, “the best traders” this week.

They changed hands from €101 to a top price of €153 or €3.40 per kg for a 45kg pen of ewe lambs.

Interview with Stephen Hannon – Aurivo

In 2020, Sligo beef farmer, Stephen Hannon, became general manager of Aurivo Marts and was appointed manager of Balla Mart, Mayo.

The Coolfadda, Ballymote native, took over the general managerial position from Martin Walsh, who filled these shoes for over four decades.

Stephen joined Aurivo Marts, which operates four livestock mart centres in the west, in 2006, securing two managerial appointments.
