Aurivo Ballinrobe Mart – Cattle Prices – 08-02-2023
According to Aurivo Ballinrobe Mart’s assistant manager, Teresa Gibsey, Wednesday (February 8th, 2022) saw what she reported to be “another day of great trade with increased stock numbers coming out”.
She outlined that heifers were “on fire” as prices ranged from €860 to €2,190 per head or €2.33 to €3.61 per kg. Gibsey commented that the sale attracted “top quality heifers with price tags to match”.
The average price for heifers ranging from 400kgs to 500kgs stood at €2.94/kg, which represented an increase on last week’s returns.

Bullock prices:
Bullock prices varied from €880 to €1800 per head or €2.35 to €3.26 per kg, with an average for entries crossing the scales at 400kg to 500kg coming in at €2.92/kg, an increase on last week’s average.

- CHX – 515KG – €1,525;
- CHX – 455KG – €1,440;
- CHX – 310KG – €1,020;
- LMX – 310KG – €900.
Cull cow prices:
According to Gibsey, a smaller selection of cull cows came under the hammer with prices from €1,090 to €1,920.

- LMX – 695KG – €1,570;
- LMX – 635KG – €1,560;
- CHX – 625KG – €1,480.
Weanling heifers ranged from €560 to €1,000 per head or €3.17 to €3.39 per kg.

- AAX – 165KG – €560 – €3.39/KG;
- CHX – 295KG – €970 – €3.29/KG.
Weanling bulls traded from €610 to €1,100 per head or €2.00 to €3.59 per kg.

- AAX – 170KG – €610 – €3.59/KG;
- CHX – 350KG – €1,080 – €3.14/KG.
Sucklers
Suckler cows ranged from €1,340 to €1,840 per head for a CHX, due in early March to the LM bull, with an average across the board of €1,590 per head.
Sheep sale
Meanwhile, at Thursday’s (Feb 9th), sheep sale, similar numbers came under the hammer with tops of €184/head.
According to Gibsey, lambs sold for between €1.83/kg or €3.02/kg with an average across the board of €2.58/kg.
The average price per head was €94.51, with a top price of €145 for 48kg ewe lambs, making €3.02/kg.
Prices from the day were 65kg wethers, €144, €2.22/kg. 49kg ram lambs, €136, €2.78/kg. 44kg ewe lambs, €120, €2.73/kg.
Cull ewes ranged from €50 to €108 per head with an average of €68 paid per head.
In lamb-ewes traded from €101 to €184 per head with an average price of €156. The top price was for ewes in-lamb to Texel or Charollais ram, due around Feb 20th, 2023.
