Balla Mart – Weanling Prices – 19-04-2022
According to Stephen Hannon, weanlings reached €2,880 at Balla Mart’s evening sale on Tuesday, April 19th, 2022.
Top of the town was a July-2021-born Belgian-Blue-cross weanling heifer, weighing 380kgs (7.57/kg) and out of BB2247 and an Ondit Limousin dam.
The general manager of Aurivo Marts and manager of Balla Mart reported that prices were “up” on the previous week, with over €3.50/kg for lots at the upper end of the market.

Speaking following the sale, he said:
“There was a great sale and a super trade with some lovely store weanlings.”
“There were also farmer buyers for the small, handy, lesser-type calves online as well as around the ring,” he added.

Meanwhile, he explained that 350kg heifers averaged €2.83/kg, while those 350-450kgs levelled at €2.71/kg.

Bull weanling/yearling prices:
Hannon reported that light bull weanlings 200kg to 350kg averaged €2.85/kg, while bulls in the 350kg to 450kg weight bracket levelled at €2.72/kg.
Meanwhile, those north of 450kgs averaged €2.65/kg with a May-2021-born Charolais-cross, weighing 495kg topping out at €1,530.
