Prices from €110 to €2,600 (€5.98/kg) at Balla’s weanling sale – Hannon

Aurivo Balla Mart – Weanling Prices – 25-04-2023

According to Stephen Hannon, exporters, farmers, and online buyers were active at Balla Mart’s second last spring weanling sale on Tuesday, April 25^th, 2023, writes farming journalist, Catherina Cunnane.

The general manager of Aurivo Marts and manager of Balla Mart, reported that a “good” trade prevailed with some “excellent” prices paid at its most recent evening weanling sale.

Weanling bull prices

Weanling bulls, 200kg to 350kg, averaged €3.37/kg, while lots in the 350kg to 450kg levelled at €3.11/kg, and those 450kg+ averaged out at €3.00/kg.

Top of the charts in this ring at €1,475 was one Charolais-cross bull, born in July 2022 and weighing 475kg.

Heifer weanling prices:

In the heifer weanling ring, prices were “well up”, with those 200kg to 350 kg levelling at 3.22/kg, while heifer weanlings 350kg to 450kg averaged out at €3.13/kg.

One LMX heifer, which crossed the scales at 435kgs, maxed out at €2,600 or €5.98/kg. She is by the AI Limousin bull, Lodge Hamlet and an AJY (Belgian Blue) daughter.
