VIDEO: Heifers to €3,500 and dry cows to €3,320 at Balla Mart

According to Stephen Hannon, prices topped at €3,500 at Balla Mart’s general weekly cattle sale yesterday (Saturday, October 15^th).

The mart manager and general manager of Aurivo Marts reported that the heifer ring provided the sale topper in the form of a March-2021-born 19-month-old Belgian-Blue cross, out of DEP, with LM and SA blood, weighing 590kgs (€5.93/kg).

Leading the charge in the dry cow ring at €3,320 was a 2015-born Belgian-Blue-cross Adajio de Bray daughter, weighing 905kgs.

Heading up the suckler section was a Limousin-cross at €2,380, while bullocks topped out at €2,010.

Speaking following the sale yesterday, Hannon said: “Over 1,000 came under the hammer here today.”

“Ground conditions have changed, and weather conditions are also driving numbers out. Breeding heifers met with what I can only describe as an outstanding trade, but buyers are becoming more selective,” he added.

According to Hannon, store bullocks 400kg to 500kg averaged €2.69/kg, while heavier sorts 500kg + levelled at €2.66/kg.

According to Hannon, circa 500 heifers crossed the scales, and those up to 400 kg averaged €2.58/kg, while those in the 400kg to 500kg weight bracket levelled at €2.63/kg and entries north of 500kg recorded an average price of €2.82/kg.
