VIDEO: Cull cows to €2,580 and bullocks to €2,510 at Balla Mart

Balla Mart – Cattle Prices – 11-06-2022

According to Stephen Hannon, over 600 lots passed through three rings at Balla Mart, Co Mayo on Saturday, June 11^th, 2022.

The mart manager and general manager of Aurivo Marts reported that a “fine” trade prevailed for quality beef cattle – cull cows, heifers, and bullocks.

Prices reached €2,580 in the cull cow ring, €2,510 in the bullock ring, €2,500 in the heifer ring, and €2,440 in the suckler ring.

Bullock prices

According to Hannon, bullocks 300kg to 400kg averaged 2.87/kg, while those in the 400kg to 500kg bracket leveled at €2.69/kg and heavier types 500kg + averaged €2.95/kg.

Top of the town in this ring at €2,150 was a March-2020-born Charolais-cross bullock, weighing 840kgs.

Heifer prices

According to Hannon, ring two saw just over 250 lots on offer. He explained that lots up to 400 kg averaged €2.88/kg, while those in the 400kg to 500kg bracket levelled at €2.9/kg and heavier lots, 500+, eased to €2.94/kg.

At €2,500 was a Charolais breeding heifer, weighing 635kgs.
